Matthew Le Tissier and the Cosmic Right

Le Tissier’s struggle was to play for England, but it was also, from a Marxist-humanist perspective, for a sort of aestheticised self-actualisation; for a relationship between his freedom and the totality of the team that might have been impossible elsewhere. Southampton Football Club’s struggle was to stay in the Premier League. But in practice, these struggles melted into one another.
